History, Information, and Value of 1838 New Haven, Connecticut Bicentennial Medal
Value of 1838 New Haven, Connecticut Bicentennial Medal
This medal commemorates the bicentennial anniversary of the town of New Haven. The obverse displays a minister under a tree, preaching to a small crowd of settlers interspersed with Indians. The legend around the outer edge of the medal reads, “QUINNIPIACK 1683; THE DESERT SHALL REJOICE.” The reverse displays a stately building in the foreground. The legend around scene reads, “NEW HAVEN 1838; AND BLOSSOM AS THE ROSE BELOW.” Sadly, there was no follow-up medal struck for the 250th anniversary of the town.
