The 1923-S Lincoln Wheat cent, struck at the San Francisco Mint, had a circulation mintage of 8,700,000 — a modest figure for the series. It is readily found in well-circulated grades but becomes a genuine condition rarity in Mint State, where sharply struck, fully red examples are scarce and bring strong premiums. Many survivors are softly struck, so eye appeal and strike quality matter a great deal to value.
