History, Information, and Value of 1904-S Gold Liberty Double Eagle
Value of 1904-S $20 Double Eagle
Most survivors of this issue are sharply struck with excellent luster. While the typical coin is at least moderately abraded, many relatively smooth-looking pieces are known. The most common San Francisco Mint Liberty Head double eagle, the 1904-S is plentiful in grades through MS-64, with MS-65s scarce but also obtainable by the standards of the type. There are no examples certified finer than MS-66, at which level this issue is rare.
